On August 6th and August 9th 1945, atomic bombs were dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
150,000 to 246,000 humans, mostly civilians*, were killed by one of the most cruel ways.
People died in extreme pain caused by heat and burn and thirst.
'Please give me water' 'Please give me water', my mind hears countless voices.
Those who survived endured many years of sickness and pain.
I imagine offering butter lamps, blue flame ones to countless lives lost to calm their pain and grief.
If there is a cycle of rebirth, I want them to come back to the world where there is no war, no bombing, and no killing. The world which has a full openness, calmness, joyfulness and abundance for every living being.
After 81 years of the tragedy, the current world is far from such a place for them to come back unfortunately.
We need to hold 'Hiroshima and Nagasaki' dear in our hearts and keep lighting blue flames of healing to make this world better place, even it is a small action. A responsibility is in each of us.
May every life be free of suffering.
*The victims were not only Japanese citizens. 40,000 to 50,000 Koreans, who were mostly brought to Japan under colonial forced labour mobilization to work in factories and shipyards; several thousand Chinese and Taiwanese labourers and students; Southeast Asian students; Allied prisoners of War; A small number of Westerners
